A Night in Bogota

From Bogota, above Norte near Mirador Cai Guadalupe. A dramatic sky hanging over what seems to be a endless city, as far as you can see. Bogota stretches even beyond the next mountain ridges. Those areas near the mountains are where the non-natives can’t travel. The tour guides won’t take you, even if you ask.

I watched a knife fight between to Venezuelan guys on the street the day before I took this image. We were in a nice part of town. There where nice shops and restaurants. It was a business district with many professionals on their daily commutes..
.
I get dropped off early to explore the area while I wait on my friend to arrive. As I’m standing on the corner surveying the area for photo ops a young energetic man makes an attempt to sell me a umbrella, then anything else I may be in need of. I really liked his energy and charisma. He was smart and motivated, so, we kept talking. I wasn’t buying his product but I did buy him a street coffee (tinto) while we talked about his travel plans to the United States. After about twenty minutes he was pulled off to the side by a couple other guys to talk in private for a minute. When he came back, he thanked me for the coffee and said he had something to do and had to go now. Within ten seconds of walking away from me, I see him look over his shoulder to spot his enemy approaching from across the street with a knife. Instantaneously he pulls his own knife from behind his back and charges the other man.
.
That is not a life anyone dreams of.

Meeting people on the pathway of life gives an array of perspective if you stop and listen. If you take the time to put yourself in their shoes you can learn something. By photographing people and learning about their stories, I aim to share and shine a light on cultures and purpose to help others find meaning and motivation to live a positive life.
